I hope you were told that by a lying dealer, and not one of your friends. HAHAHAHA

 

That particular gauge is a running joke on these bikes. It reads at least 12-15 degrees higher on normal days and on hot days 20 degrees or more. It's a joke. Replace it with an oil temp gauge when you can.

Get the oil-filled accessory air temp gauge that screws on the brake handle clamp/screw. It's very accurate and a really classy looking little instrument.

 

Same Gauage - Same POS an the Road Glides - Temp Prob is under the fairing and a joke... Oil Temp Gauage from Wally's World will be on my list the next time I do the Fairing Removal for the HOGTUNE SPEAKERS

 

It does read the temperature inside the fairing.... Which is pretty odd..

If you have a white bike - it is probably OK - if it is black - ona sunny day its going to be +30 Degrees off.

So they should rename this - inner fairing temperature guage... Cause that is what it is..

 

see this is exactly what HD knows you will do.
You will do anything BUT force them to fix the gauge.
You will spend YOUR money, rather than force them to spend theirs.
Guess you all have more money in your pocket to blow than me.
No wonder some of you have other problems.

has anyone tried moving the sensor to a better location in open air?

 

My old (2002) Goldwing onebuilt in. It was pretty accurate. I was told the sensor was in the air box that fed the engine. My buddy and me used to compared temps occasionally when we were riding. I guess when I get my newUltra and he says it's 75 degrees and i say it's 100 we will know who is wrong

 

Moving the sensor is going to be my next small project, others have done it and reported good results, so I will have to see if this holds true.

Just had the dealer change out the air temp guage for a oil temp guage. Cost just over $400.00 installed. [sm=sigh.gif] Kind of pricey to replace a guage that don't work with one that should have already been there.
