Voltage going HAYWIRE

Voltage going HAYWIRE
Posted in the audio section but figured I would get more views here.
I have a 2013 SG and I installed a Sony head unit, Rockford Fosgate amp and kicker tweeter pods with cross overs.
About a month ago I started having issues with my batter light and check engine light coming on, at the same time the voltage gauge would drop to about 10. I replaced the battery and that helped for a bit. It started again recently, if I hut the bike down it usually fixe it for a bit, but it will come back. I don't notice any power difference in the bike, nor is it predictable I.e. when the bike is hot, or longer into a ride.
Well yesterday the opposite happened, my stereo cut off and I noticed the gauged was pinned at 16 volts. I shut the bike off and it was ok for a bit, happened two more times before running for the rest of the trip (about an hour)
Because of the amp, do I need to upgrade stater/regulator?
Any Clue??

Confirm reading with a voltmeter at the battery or tender pigtail if you have ( saves pulling the seat)
replace asap- it will burn up your new battery, and could blow your electronics one by one.
the VR should never allow voltage above 14.8 volts DC
you also need to check your stator ( how to's are posted )- any bad part of the charging system can destroy the other parts.
It is possible that when your battery was going bad it stressed the VR and now it is dead
also check your cables are tight and secure at BOTH ends
the guys with "show" audio systems add batteries- high powered amp chew up alot of current and it surges with the bass- a capacitor can smooth out the demand ( car audio shop) it acts as a buffer between the amp and battery
what is the fuse rating of your added amp? unless it is 10 amps or higher - the amp shouldn;t really be a concern
