Maybe what they found wrong was affecting the handling of the bike? Something he felt during the test ride?

Back to the main thread, hrm sounds fishy to me. Especially taking it "right in" but Im paranoid of most, if not all, people anyway.

Not trying to add salt to the wound, but what magic words did these mechanics utter "Abracadabra Harley Abra"? PRESTO tranny fixed?

I am not bad mouthing the mechanics or harley. The mechanics went above and beyond fixing a problem that I didnt know about. They didnt imply that they were fixing the 5th gear issue, in fact, after they aligned the motor they told me the 5th gear noise was normal, (true or not this is what they told me). I love my bike and I am only sharing information for those who can appreciate it and/or use it.

5th gear whine is normal. I've been on several '07s and '08s and they make noise. It's a whining noise. I've ridden Japanese bikes all my life and have heard every gear whine, chain noise and engine noise known to man. The 5th gear noise is just new to you; there's nothing wrong by it. Mostly it's a matter of harmonics in the mechanical assemblies. Ride an old GL1000 or GL1100 and hear the primary chain slapping. Sounds like the engine is coming apart. Talk about scary. But they hold together just fine.

now the engine alignment thing... that's a matter to be concerned with. It's a real and possible problem.

To the original posting subject; They re aligned my 07 motor... after reading the threads on the noisy 5th gear in the 07 models.

The member choochoo is correct: tranny and engine are firmly bolted together there really can not be any misalignment. However the engine and tranny as an assembly can be out of alignment with the frame, which would cause handling problems.
[ol][*]Anything that is bolted together can be misaligned. Yes, [*]Misalignment causes handling problems. Yes[*]Should it be fixed? Yes![*]Everybody can have a bad day. Things happen. Our race bikes are all aligned periodically. HD’s are no different.[*]Does this help on the 5th gear noise? No! Not in your case.[*]alexcue Maybe what they found wrong was affecting the handling of the bike? Correect!

I hope it was synthetic blinker fluid. Causes them to blink a little faster.
