Did about a 260 mile ride this morning. I think I am going to say that.....THAT tick is gone?.. Although I do still hear some valve train noise , which I am sure will always be there. Overall the engine is soooooo much quieter.
I did notice the two fairly small holes... did you notice a reduction the first time? I wonder if the holes are larger in the newer whips?
Not much, that's why I drilled them bigger. The first time I went to ⅛". This time I took them out to 9/64". The breather element is supposed to stay off the bottom a bit so the oil doesn't get trapped, but I don't see that happening. When I installed the new ones this time I stuffed them up into the housing as much as possible and hope they will stay off the bottom of the rocker support plate.
I already have my ventilator modified, but I still would like to get that oil back in the crankcase and not on the ground. I think I got a fairly bad crank from the factory. Wish I could use the S&S reed valve but the newer engines have set screws on the crank bearing so it can't be installed.
I installed the new (and revised) breather element assembly and maybe it does a better job (doubt it based on its function) but it certainly is not robust. Basically, you pop the breather valve in, insert the mesh, and the "cover" is a sealed piece so the mesh of the breather element makes full contact with the bottom of the rocker housing.
I wish i would have drilled those holes a bit larger but oh well... not going to be repeating that process anytime soon (I hope anyways).
