That would also by my route if custom is what your after. For any simple or single color configuration, paint will yield way better results than wrap.

 

Wrap??? Next thing you'll be doing is spray painting your wheels silver and calling it chrome!!!

 

Well they do make chrome and gold spray paint, might look a little ghetto though.

 

I had the fairing on my bike wrapped. I came up with the design. It has been on for about 9 months now. I get frequent compliments on it. I went this route because I didn't like the boring fairing and it is much cheaper than getting it painted.

I figured if it got some chips in it I can always get it printed again and that would also be cheaper than a custome paint re touched up it it got scratched.

 

Could you post a pic of your fairing? I see you sig pic. Got a better one to. Show the fairing? Did you do it yourself or professionally installed?

 

I gave it a shot over last winter. For being a beginner and not knowing how to do it the results were pretty good for a first try. Link below on how I did it with pictures of the finished product. I didn't wrap the whole bike just bottom part in grey. The plan was to do the whole bike but after trying the front fender went to plan B which was the two tone.

I have professionally installed vinyl wraps for the past 11 years. As far as durability in my opinion it holds up well. Small scratches can be heated with a torch or heat gun and the laminate will smooth back out and gloss back up. It's like anything else, depends on how you take care of it. If it's left outside in direct sun for a few years yes it's going to fade and crack. I personally have not wrapped my bike because like most of you I believe a bike should be painted. But I have wrapped many bikes. I will try to find the picture of the 2012 street glide that I wrapped in black chrome.

 

I can't speak for a vinyl wrap, but Plasti-Dip works on a tank! And peels off.

I know it is covered in bugs, this was when I was riding on the Blue Ridge parkway after a couple of other days of riding in NC. I thought it was nice and sunny and I had not taken a picture of it yet.

When I had it done, the place printed it out, and wrapped the entire fairing for me. The first time the graphic didn't come out as I wanted it so I watched him peel it off, no stick residue, and then he reprinted it with my changes and wrapped it. Cost if done the first time for the printing and wrapping and some of his graphic enhancements to my original image was about $200.00. Much less than if I had it painted. If I ever get tired of it, or the new owner doesn't like it or it gets too many stone chips on it, peel it off and put another one on.

 

Wrapping would be a good thing when the old paint starts looking bad and getting chipped on the fairing....something to keep in mind!
