Exactly what would happen performance wise to my 07 EGU if I unplugged the O2 sensors. I don't care if it gets a fault code but would it even run or run worse or run better. Just curious and a search on O2 sensors gets a bazillion hits. Basically I'm wondering if it would run richer and maybe cool it down a little. But I also don't want to flood it out either. I'm just not sure exactly what and how they work. Maybe it's a cheap way to get away from the factory lean condition? Yep, and it's not even winter yet.

The link above is the manual for TTS Master tune. Chapter 1 and 3 help explain just what the ECM is doing and why. I think after you read this you'll want to leave them plugged in.

But I installed a Dobeck performance EJK...you cap the O2 sensors.

 

o2 sensors produce voltage based on the sensors reaction to the exhaust gasses passing through it in real time.

a correct mixture will output .5 volts dc....more voltage is produced by rich mixtures, less voltage by lean mixtures

if the ecm 'sees' .4 volts, then it will add more fuel...if it sees .6 it will reduced the fuel added to the air instantly reacting to try to stay at .5 volts.

the reason that xieds work is that they are resistor packs which reduce the voltage from the o2 sensor to the ecm...so the ecm is fooled into adding more fuel.


with no o2 signal- like unplugged, the ecm will probably guess by using input from the other sensors- and run off mapped values in the cells similar to the pre-07 ( non o2) models...and look how they ran
( and this is why I stayed away from HD's EFI bikes the first 3 versions)

"tuners" which do not use o2 sensor input are kinda hamstrung using base info such as rpm, throttle position, barometric pressure and temperature to guess whether the mixture is rich/lean or right on- but the ecm has no way of knowing the result of it's adjustments which with o2 sensors are instant

if you just unplug, you'd probably get a check engine light.

you can see what they do by putting a DC voltmeter on the leads and watch the voltage being produced once they warm up to over 600ºF

Thanks everyone. I have XIED's now. I just thought that unplugged the ECM would just throw more fuel at it anyway so I was wondering why I even needed them. Ain't nuttin simple anymore.
