O2 Sensors Unplugged Question
#21
I too bought the XIEDS (have them in the garage) and will put them on in a couple days. I anticipate the bike registering/logging a code (but not illuminating the CEL) and I'm okay with that.
and by reduced fuel mileage... based on your own riding behavior... 5 mile reduction?

My observed MPG w 10% ethanol fuel was 44 when stock.
with fixed value xieds on my 2009 96" I am all the way down to 43 MPG, measured over many thousands of miles.
my version makes about 8% richer under most road conditions.
In 5 years I have not had a CE or any codes thrown.
reading over Steve Mullen's post linked above about CEL's/codes, mention is made of exhaust system air leaks- he doesn;t mention this but it could apply in some cases:
in some circumstances ( at specific rpms) some exhaust systems may take air from the exhaust tip and suck it up into the header, briefly.
this could explain some riders seeing codes (not that they mean much) a brief moment when air is able to affect the o2 sensors and drop the produced voltage below specs.
