I use the SG seat around town and in state and find it is good for 4 hours, painful at 6.
Often with 12" shocks and a shortened windscreen

I had a very poor experience with a corbin seat, made worse by shockingly poor customer service- I promised Corbin I would always share.

Couldn't agree more that everyone is different. I can only use my stock SG seat for 150 miles at a time. The Mustang touring seat is much better, but still not as nice a others' seats I have ridden.... Also, with experience from automobiles, a firmer seat will do you well on longer rides.... even with a bony **** like mine! Remember. Firmer does not necessarily mean more uncomfortable.

With that said, a custom seat is truly the only way to go.... unless you just get plain lucky.

As for the backrest. I had surgery years ago.... L4/5 and S1. I now never ride without the back rest. Once the scar tissue firms up, the "soreness" goes away and the support benefits of the backrest are apparent.

Good luck to the OP to find the "perfect" seat.

Ultra and at 6'5" and 240, I found it hard to get comfortable as well. Stock '10 seat scrapped quickly, went with a street glide-wife said no- and finally settled on a '11 Ultra LOW. Allen at MCC said the seat pan for the '11 seat was really good to work with so off it went to get lowered and move me back 2'. The modified seat is good, really good, almost perfect but...on the return trip from Charleston, I test ride my buddy's Airhawk seat cushion. bought one as soon as I got home. Absolutely the best ride possible for me, got me wondering if a fella couldn't just insert one of these Airhawk cushions into the seat in place of a couple of inches of foam and stitch it up.

I have a Russell Day Long seat, it is the most comfortable seat I have ever had, it is expensive but when you ride allot it is well worth it to me.

Well I bought a Corbin two up with a backrest today locally from another rider. He let me take it for a test ride. It is very firm, but not uncomfortable. I was thinking a lot about the comparison to a tractor seat, and I've spent many hours on a tractor, so I thought I'd give it a shot. I rode it for a couple of hours today and it wasn't uncomfortable, though you can feel every damn bump in the road. I figure if I hate it on my trip, I'll stop at a HD dealership and buy a hammock seat for the rest of the way.

Many thanks to all the great advice and insight.

I believe Danny Gray seats have the option of an airhawk installed.

Have you thought about upgrading your shocks?
You can have a quality pair of shocks for the price of a nice seat...
Just a thought...

I'm a dedicated Corbin guy. Several Harley's ago, I ran across similar issues. The Corbin was (for me), the best and most comfortable seat, accompanied with a riders backrest. You are correct on the "sticker shock" factor, but it was worth every penny. Just my

I plan on going with the same configuration for the Street Glide in the near future.
