I had 18" apes on my old bike. I could have gone with 16" apes and would have been comfortable. I am 6'4" tall. If you ride distance, you really do not want your hands above your shoulders. you hands start to get numb after a few hours in the saddle.

I regularly do 300-400 mile days and I'm happy to say I've not had that issue with my 18" Gangsters. My bar height forces me to ride with better posture which really helps my lower back.
I'm 5'11" and ended up installing 14" on my RKC. Puts my hands level with shoulders and makes a huge improvement as far as comfort and handling! I think you'll be needing taller than 14"...
Carlini 16's are actually closer to 17's, per Carlini. I am 6'4" and ran 16's. Mine put my hands at shoulder level, which was just about right for me. Good luck!!
