Default 4 Ultra Cruise Control

Just bought an 04 Ultra today. My first big touring bike. I put about 200 miles on it today to get used to it. Runs absolutely fantastic and rides great also. The cruise doesn't work. When I turn it on, the light comes on but, the cruise does not work. I know nothing about motorcycle cruise control. Where should I start? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

private party sell or dealer ?

did the cruise work when you bought ?

Might look for a good Indy in your area - better than the Dealer

look for 2004 service manual - great to have and may help you with this

Not to hijack this thread but on my 03 EG its the same way. I turn the switch on the dash on and the light comes on. How do you set the cruise? The original owner changed the switch housings to chrome. Did the 03 come with cruise switches in the throttle housing next to the stereo **** also like the newer ones?

There is a switch on the throttle return cable (cruise roll off switch) that is known to go bad. The switch allows you to disable cruise by rolling throttle forward. Disconnect it, and if cruise works, that's your problem. If memory serves correctly, should find the switch under/near front of tank.

Answers above. I can wrench, just not familiar with m/c Cruise.

EDIT: I'm interested in your hitch. Posted to your previous thread.....

How do you set the cruise control. I have a brand new throttle cable that has the switch on it once you turn the switch on next to the ignition lock then what do you do to set cruise?

Push the set/resume switch on the throttle side, to the left.

OK. That's my problem. The previous owner changed the switch housings out to chrome and didn't get cruise ones.

I haven't been able to find chrome switch housings with the cruise feature.

That was it for me. Disconnected the switch, cruise works like a champ. Do I need to replace the switch or just go with it?

Thanks for the info, worked out great.....
