Default Inner fairing bracket, how big of a job

Had my fairing cap off this week to fix the odometer reset button. Noticed the Fairing brackets are cracking at the top bolt.
Looks like it could be a bear of a job with all the stuff in there. Anyone replaced these? Is the replacement part any better than the OEM or should I be considering welding these up myself when I get them out?
How much of the internals have to be taken out to get these out of the fairing?
I have seen a few places that sell kits to "fix" the problem but I am curious to how well that works. I mean I am quite handy and could make something like that myself but it seems that it may just crack somewhere else. However if the HD replacement is still the same exact part replacing them is a waste of money.

looks worse than it really is, I say go for it. anything you remove just take pics if that will help you put it back together. tore mine completely down to paint the inner and I'm no tech.

If they're broken off, you can get small L brackets at the local hardware store and fix them that way. 2 years on mine with no problems whatsoever, and maybe 15 minutes to do it.

Like Primetime says it's not a hard job. Take pictures and label with tape and you'll be fine.

The Harley parts have been updated. For half the price j&P has plastic ones I didn't notice till after getting gouged at dealer.

Just go to the hardware and by a common 1/8"X 1" strap usually come in 3' lengths. \
Cut off a 2"/ 3" piece and bend it in a 90. Pop rivets work the best to secure it back.

Well it will be a winter project so I will probably just re-engineer the ones that are in there and beef them up.
It seems that is the most common long term fix.

This is what I did but used some scrap aluminum laying under the bench and a handful of pop rivets, took all of five minutes...
