You shouldn't have to cut your tank, didn't need to on my 2001. If you search my posts, you should find some info.

I'm not sure, but this might help.
You may not know for due until you take it apart. Just be ready for it.

If the tank does have the steel fuel lines, you will need to cut them out as both lines go to the top of the tank. On my 98 Ultra, I drilled them from the outside with 9/16 drill bit. You need to be extremely careful one slip with the drill and you will destroy the threads in the tank for the fuel valve and the plug. It would be worth a try, sourcing a tank from a Delphi efi bike is an option. I don't think there are any steel fuel lines in those.

Default Question

I have the same bike and am preparing to do the carb conversion. Did eliminating the cam sensor work out for you? Did you wind up using the 2002 ignition modual?

Revelator 2 has it right! Get the Thunder Heart stand alone ignition mine came with coil , programable ignition module , all wiring and instructions. I removed ECM and all the wiring and sensors that went with it. I did'nt attempt to wire up my fuel gage or warning light. I now have a reserve on the petcock , better than a fuel light....I had to die grind the metal lines inside tank [this was the worst part].
