Default Road King Lower and Lid Speakers

I've searched and searched but haven't found much info.

For the guys out there on Road Kings, who has installed speakers without adding a fairing? I want to do something like the 2013 CVO Road King with speakers in the lowers and lids, but don't want to spend the time and money if they aren't any good.

How's the sound quality at highway speed? Anybody just put speakers in a set of lowers and have luck with that?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Cool

Curious as well. Plenty of speakers on Amazon, Fleabay, etc. but not a lot of feedback.

Drew,

I responded here: https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...l#post14438605

In short, yes, I recommend lids AND lowers. Really depends on your helmet and if windshield is on or off. With windshield on, lids and lowers with a decent amplifier and speakers will rock at highway speed (and absolutely **** off your neighbors - don't ask me how I know).

Highly recommend checking out the audio section on this forum.

I have 6x9 lids and lowers (fairing speakers too). At speed it is much easier to hear the lowers, as they are pointed directly at you. It's kinds hard for the rider to hear lids since they are behind you to begin with. They rock in the garage though. If it was either/or, I'd say lowers but lids do have their place. It's just not at 70 mph on the freeway. The passenger hears them better than the rider. I'm not saying don't get them, just don't expect too much at higher speeds.

On a Road King, what are you using for tunes? Just an iPod? Are there hand controls that can be found?

Not sure. Probably plug my phone in and use Apple Music or Pandora. I don't own much music. Control would be tough, but I'm ok with pressing play and letting it go. Bluetooth would be nice so my phone can stay in my pocket.

I've looked into those type of systems. Hate the look, plus I want to be able to ditch the windshield and still have some tunes.

I've seen the options, just curious as to what sounds the best and gives the most flexibility on the Road King.

Thanks to everyone for the help so far!

One of the guys at the dealership runs this on his FX with a fairing. could be wired up for speakers wherever you want and then bluetooth your phone so that you dont need a head unit.
