Default 2012 FLHTK Suspension

Hi all, just picked up a 2012 FLHTK and the previous owner changed the suspension to 1" lower Progressive 944's on the back and dropped the front 2"with progressive inserts. I find the ride rough ( we have crappy roads) compared to my 2003 FXST I had. I have tuned the rear to 1/2 a turn above the 1st ring. It's a bit better, but the front just hits too hard and sharp. He was 5' 10" and 250+ lbs and I'm 5' 10" and 195. Am I better going back to stock shocks. Mostly single up touring. Appreciate any suggestions. Budget is an issue, have to pay for this thing. LOL And if any of you have been to Manitoba, Canada, you will know about our shitty roads.
Take care and thanks.

Was the front done with springs or monotubes? Progressive offers both.

You may be able to rectify the reduced ride height with them. Progressive publish installation instructions and videos on their website, which you may find useful. You could also give them a call for advice, they seem to be very helpful.

They only offer a 1" lowered monotube set, although I've read some reviews where the combination (or lack thereof) might end up a little lower. http://www.progressivesuspension.com...u-2013-touring The drop springs they offer goes to a 2" drop. http://www.progressivesuspension.com...ng-kit-drop-in. Maybe you have just the springs. Many people like the monotubes. If you hold the front brake and rock it forward does the front end dive?

The previous may have ordered heavy duty springs with the shocks.

+1. Given he is heavier than you he may also have installed 2 clips in the mono's, which would account for a stiffer ride for a lighter rider. The only way to know for sure is to ask the previous owner, if that is an option, or take the front forks apart to see. In any case, any time you "lower" the suspension, front, rear, or both, you will sacrifice ride due to the decrease in suspension travel.

Thanks for the info. I ended up getting the original front and rear shocks put back in. So far so good. The front end is not as sharp of a pounding on the rough roads. This set up I can live with. First time with a bagger, thought it should ride smoother than my FXST. LOL

FWIW, I'm 5'10" and 230. My 2010 Limited is totally stock suspension. It is the plushest motorcycle ride I've ever experienced, without being mushy. So going back to stock may not be all bad.
