Default Secondary drive belt

Hello all I snapped my 1 1/2" belt hot rodding with a friend, is the harley high load drive belt part number 40130-03A any different than a stock belt? they don't give much of a description for it. I am looking to get the best out there they all seem to be carbon fiber belts now, built by either gates or goodyear. who has the knowledge which is the better belt?

What kind of power are you putting into that belt and how many miles?

The OEM belts are about as tough as they come. Gates or Goodyear either would be a good choice. They do wear out over time and if yours was 14 years old then you got your mileage out of it. If you don't have the ability and skill to change the belt yourself, you better sit down when they quote you a price!

Since you are changing the belt out anyway, you might think about swapping your rear pulley. The 1 1/8" belt and pulley from a 2004 touring would bolt on with no other mods. You would then be able to run a 150 series rear tire. Just make sure that the tooth count of the belt and pulley is the same as your old setup.

This belt was 8 years old and had a small rock go through the center of it a few years ago before the motor got built, 133 tq and I think this is where it broke. I was on a ride in the ozarks when my belt starting squeaking when cold, I had a dealer tighten it up and they told me my pulley was bad and needed changed, and 35 miles later it snapped. My pulley is 9 years old and 25000 miles here are a couple pics, I can see a little wear on the pulley is this shot? I also had my indy order me a drag belt that is carbon and their add says 33% more strength than what a stock belt, which is what I had.

If a hole gets punched through the belt, it's time to replace the belt. It's unfortunate and it's also quite expensive, even if you do it yourself as just the belt itself it quite pricey, but it is what it is. With a hole in the belt (assuming it holds up at all) you've been served notice that you need to schedule it's replacement at a time (soon) of your convenience, rather than waiting for the belt to decide when you will have to replace it.
