Default Progressive 444 for SG question....

I want to switch out my stock 15' SG air shocks for the 444's. Do I need the heavy duty versions, if my wife and I are only 320lbs. total. We ride 2 up most of the time without loaded bags. I just don't want a ride thats too hard, and then can't adjust it soft enough.

I had the 440's and rode solo at 235 -240 lbs and found them stiff regardless of adjustment.

Better than stock, but stiff.

Personally I'd stay away from asking for heavy duty springs but see what others that have the new 444's say and ride two up. For an extra 200 bucks you can get a set of ohlin shocks that will give you and your wife a comfy ride. Howard from motorcycle metal can be contacted on this forum about those if you wish. I do have progressive mono tube cartridges in my front forks and they ride well.

Not trying to sway you or change the topic, but I did the same as you...swapped out my stock shocks on '15 FLHXS. Initially was going with progressive, then sold on Ohlins. I was set on the HD 039. Called the company and told them my kind of riding...again similar in weight to you. They sold me the HD 022. Absolutely love them and the company as well. Great product. The ride is awesome and a drastic improvement over stock. Not just "better than stock". No change in ride height. Easy adjustable if needed, but I've never messed with them once I put them on correctly. Good luck.

I have the 13" 444 regular on my FLHTC. Progressive says, in an email to me, that if I'm 250+ OR ride 2 up more than 50% then get HD. Well, I'm 240 and ride 2-up about 50% (wife is 120) I read too many stories of the HD being to stiff so I got the regular. After 1 season, wish I had the HD.

Well thanks for all the input! I appreciate it. After doing tons of reading and talking to riders out here in AZ...I'm going to try Ohlins. I saw a pair here on a new SG and the guy used to race with them. Swears by Ohlin and says I can sell them easy if I don't like them.

Default Progressive 444 for SG question....

I don't know about pricing down there but in Canada right now Progressive pricing has gotten so high that we can order Ohlins from either of 2 of our site sponsors, ship them, and pay exchange for the same price or less.

Seems like a no brainer to me

you get what you pay for. i have progressive 944's and they are adjustable and smooth as silk. what ever you get make sure you adjust your sag or you will hate what ever you get.

and why would you buy something because of how they look? especially shocks? just saying since you made the comment. maybe you should take some time and do some research before you buy any at all.

I've been reading A LOT about shocks the past several days. Based on what I've read and visiting dealer web sites I'm leaning towards Super Shox. If you do a search on this forum you'll find a lot of positive input for this shock.

Actually, I didn't say I'm buying them for how they look. I only saw them on a bike like mine. I will buy them though based on user reviews, and available data that compares them to other brands. Not to mention, if i can buy them below MSRP, it's worth the investment.

Recon4.........I put in for a quote on the Supershox to see how they compare with Ohlin. Thanks for the heads up.
