Older guy new to Fuel injection question
Well being an old school guy I always had carbed harleys, I decided to get a bagger and bought my uncles bike , its a 2000 FLHTCI, this bike has stock air box and stock mufflers but does have a SE 203 cam, I don't even know if a stage one download was done at that time, but here is my question, Do I need some kind of tuner and I hope this is the correct terminology if so what is out there for this year of bike, the bike seems to run hot and it was only 82F today , much hotter than my carbed Dyna and the plugs were not tan colored but more white looking and the ceramic isolator was white with no discoloration, the stock slip ons are loose so I bought new clamps and will install tomorrow, could this be the reason it is running hot?
Thx for any help suggestions as I am really a noob wih FI

...and the 2000 has the magnetti marrelli injection ( infection?).
one way to tell if there is a "download" is to rev it and see where the rev limiter is set- a stage 1 download will in many versions rev to 5800 or 6000...I think ( and I may be wrong) that the limit was set at 5500 on your bike as stock.
the air box may be modified- is the plastic sealed to the football cover all the way around?
with modern injection and hot ignition systems, reading plugs belongs in the past. fuel additives too - I think you have 10% ethanol on your gas...I seem to recall that from my trip up there in july.
also with the fairing lowers you will get better motor cooling....the fairings order and direct the air past the cooling fins- but that hot air is gonna hit your thigh...a blow dryer effect.
I find that if I keep my thighs tight to the tank the hot air keeps moving by
if you are really really concerned that the mixture is off- have an o2 sensor bung welded into one of the headers. and you can test the mixture your self in real time with a voltmeter.
There are some guys here who have good knowledge on the MM infection. I stayed away from the EFI until the later version on my 09...my other bikes are carbed.
an MM swap to carb runs pretty cheap a few hundred bucks for a DIY

There aren't many options for programmers for MM bikes. I'm not sure if it's still available, but Harley did offer a programmable ECU for these bikes. They used this as Band-Aid fix for the MM injection system. This ECU was actually a re-badged S&S VFI box. It can be programmed using the S&S Protune software. I don't remember the full part number for the programmable ECU, but it ended with ...000012A. I lucked out, my bike had one on it when I bought it. You might want to pop off the right side cover and see which ECU you have.

Ya it is the MM FI but my uncle who owned the bike has never had an issue, I can feel the heat coming from the engine when stopped at a light mostly the left side, and it always idles between 950-1050 oid pressure drops at idle but blip the throttle and goes right up, it does not have fairing lowers, I saw online a Cobra FI2000R that plugs nto the injectors nd adjust the mixture , does anyone have experience with this

Appears to run good and stock ecm, had it up to 85mph with no isues, in 2007 my uncle brought it in for a bad lifter and ended up doing the tensioners and put the cam in, he lives in Quebec and they are not so kind to loud pipes,
It was mentioned that I rev the engine up to confirm if it had a stage one download, well I did get it up to 5800 rpm and could have gone higher and it didn't hit the rev limiter, with this said could I go ahead and put a stage one air filter and pipes or are there different stage on downloads dependant on installed options, I always thought a stage one is air filter, pipes and cam
Sorry for all the questions, this FI stuff is new to me

I've got a 2000 S/E Road Glide and though they run hotter than my EVO, they're no where near as hot as the '07 and later models.
If you got it to 5800, it's got the download and the 203 cams (standard on my S/E,) are a good match for that download. (Mine is Stage II, yours might well be.)
I went to Andrews 26 cams since Jan '11 at 81,000 miles and this October I plan on my annual 5 state week long Fall ride back up north to visit friends and relatives. The bike has 152,000 miles on it.
If it gets hot, it'll ping under accelleration. The plugs run gray in color. That '99 to '02 motor with the Timken 'Lefty' bearing and a hot forged crank shaft make it the best Twin Cam motor out there, MM Injection notwithstanding.
Put the pipes on it and hold on the air cleaner to start. (Are you certain that its the stock air cleaner?) It'll run fine.
