Thanks for the correction.I had no idea. When did the switch to an O-ring? I've tried cleaning it and it returned. So I'm pretty sure its not assy lube.
Evo's (1998) were the last touring bike with a base gasket vs o-ring on the twin cams.
Here's a link to a pic of your top end. #1 is the o-ring.
Had my replaced under the extended warrantry. They made me pay for new rings. Said it wasn't covered. I paid the dealer and then called Harley on the ring deal.
Harley sent me a check for the rings and labor.

So you paid the dealer for the job and the went to the MoCo with the bill and they refunded you the full amount or just for the parts?
By chance it is only residue from an over use of assembly lube when built. Use brake clean and clean it real good, continue to run the engine and I m willing to bet it stops.

Reason: Duh, redundant post
The price to hone and rings where refunded to me.
There books say to change the rings any time the jug is removed. Harley agreed with me.
The dealer say there where wear parts!!
I had the same issue with my Limited when it was fairly new. Ended up being the O-ring and dealer fixed it under warranty. It should be a warranty item.
Almost 9,000 miles and Ive had it for a year so a year left on the warrantee.
Well...I guess a key question might be "when did you first notice the problem?"
The second question might be "have you ever cleaned up the oil or assembly lube leak?"
Anyway, if I was facing your problem I would clean up the leak real good and see if it reappears. Others are spot on in their assessment. It is very common to see leaks around the cylinder base O ring when the bike is new and goes through numerous heat cycles.
