Default Looking for advice on 2012 spoke wheel problems

Hi All,
I bought a set of new takeoff wheels, tires and rotors from a 2012 RKC. I got them for a song but have recently learned of a spoke wheel issue for that year.

I have a 2000 miles trip next week and don't need any issues. Is it a huge problem or did it just affect a few? Any ideas appreciated.

Thanks!
J.

What is the issue? I had 2012 spokes with no issues.

I guess the spokes come loose creating a wobble. It didn't affect the smooth rims though.

I was just reading about the spoke wheels , I would definitely get the spokes checked for tightness before you head out.

What issue? I have a 2012 that came with spoke wheels. I replaced them with OEM mags, but I didn't have any problem with them. My wife and I do a lot of over-niters and one long 10 day ride each season. If you're out in the middle of nowhere and have a flat, you can't plug it with spokes. I liked the look of them, but wasn't comfortable with them. But other than that, I don't know what you mean by issues.

Apologies for the double post. Unless I'm missing something, there is no way to just delete your own post.

The 2012 and newer Spoke Wheels that use the "Inner Liner" can be plugged, as they are tubeless. The inner liner is recommended to be replaced at each tire change, adding to the cost at that time. I have been told it is a real biotch to get the liner on and in place, and have also heard of folks NOT replacing the liner and just replacing the tire.
Other that that, I have heard of no other problems with those particular wheels. I still run my stock 2011 spoke tubed wheels, not one issue as of this time.
I like spoke wheels, I might upgrade to that new tubeless style spoke wheel or similar some day...

Why don't you ask the service mgr.at your local H.D. dealership if they had any problems or service bulletins on the 2012 laced wheels.I had a 2012 and now a 2013,both with laced rims and never had or heard of any problems.

I'm calling bullshit here. Once the tire loses pressure, the liner falls away from the spoke heads and there is no way to get it back. The pressure in the tire holds the liner in place. Once the pressure is gone...you're done. Been there, done that.

just have the spokes checked and wheels trued before you leave.

I personally had the spokes on my street bob loosen up and cause a wobble, so I no longer trust spokes and went to an alloy wheel.
