Default TruckLite P7 Headlight Very Dim??

I installed the phase 7 headlight and 2 spots a few weeks ago. Tonight was my first night ride on a very dark rural road and I decided to test the different settings. With the headlight on low and the spots on, the light projection seemed very good. With the headlight on bright and spot's off, the light projection was bright, wide, and flat. This was expected and acceptable.

However, when I turned off the spots at the switch and rode with just the headlight on low, the light projection was almost nonexistent and totally unacceptable. I'm not sure I could even ride at night with the minimal amount of light the headlight alone was putting out. I don't see how bikes with no spot lights could even see at night with the P7 on it's normal low setting.

This can't be right. My stock lamp was way brighter than the P7 on low setting. Could I have done something wrong here?

Thanks for your input.

Don't know what to say -- my TL doesn't need the spots to be bright and to see well in both low and high setrings. -- Is it adjusted correctly?

Two, no, three possibilities. Mine are awesome!!!

First make sure it is installed correctly and not upside down. It should have a mark on it "Top".

Aligned properly.

Defective.

I know they are not upside down. There is a possibility they are not properly aligned, but the problem seems to be one of brightness. I've always thought of the spot lights as supplemental to the headlight. However, the spots are so much brighter than the headlight. The headlight seems almost unusable on low. When the headlight was on low and I switched off the spot lights, I actually slammed on my brakes because I could barely see where I was going.

I'll check the alignment, but I'm not sure it will help. I may try to get some pics and send to the manufacture.

I realize this test makes me sound like an idiot, but it confirms my point. I turned off all garage lights and turned on the headlight by itself on low beam. I can stare directly into the light without even flinching. The light is on, but it's very dim. This was even after moving my head around to find the maximum brightness angle. Then I turned on the high beam and the lower half of the light burns my eyes.

I also turned on the spot lamps and I can't stare at them with my eyes open. They are just too bright. The spot (passing) lamps are 2-3 times brighter than the head light on low. Something is wrong with the low setting on the headlight. I guess I'll be contacting TruckLite for some help.

gotta be something with your headlight. i have the same set up and i know others with them and all have really bright headlight. i dont really even need the spot lamps at all. if your other headlight works good maybe try pulling it apart and reconnecting it or test your TL buld connections. could be a bad bulb

Sounds like a problem with the low beam LED. Send the unit back for a replacement. I also use the Phase7, with not issues on high or low beam. There is no way I could look directly in the light. JR

This is the second thread I have read recently about possible defective TL. The other was in the general HD section. Guess there may be some bad ones out there. Hope you get it straightened out soon. Makes riding at night much more enjoyable.

I am going to guess defective. I have the same lights on my bike and I can't really tell a difference when the spots are on or off. My wife also has one on her street glide and when we ride together at night with the two bikes it's almost like riding during the day.
