I ran across a local guy with a set of 517s for sale. He had them on one week and he says for his short arms it wasn't a good fit and swapped them out. Basically new. I have been planning a bar swap since I went with the C&C which moved me back. I rode with drag bars on my warrior for 5 years and road sport bikes for 15 years before that, so I liked having some weight on my hands, but now it is to far of a reach for the long haul. The ends look really turned in and I am not sure I would be happy with them. I read some guy say they are like pushing a wheel barrel. Can you guys tell me what you love about them and any draw backs as you see them? The Heritage Bars are my fall back if I don't go this direction.

We put 517 bars on my brother's 2009 RK using a +2" clutch cable and no front brake line changes.

The bars work well for shorter reach arms. A bit far back for me with a 74" wingspan, but great for bro.

Don't you think some failing and some having success with stock cables has a little to do with how much the bars are tipped down/back?

That is a good observation and I wouldn't be surprised if that is the case. Even at a good used price I don't want to get into it unless I feel it will be a successful addition.
