Thanks for the advice... the advice I took and the advice I didn't. I appreciate the replies. Picked up this 2013 SG today.

Congrats on the bike. I have an 08 SG, while I do agree the 09+ are great bikes and better frames, I absolutely love my 2008 Also because I found it with 9,000 miles with stage 1 and a good bit of extras for $9500 on Craigslist so I couldn't pass it up. I love the street glides, and I'm sure when you're on it smiling ear to ear you will as well

Jaye: I bought a low-mileage (5800) 2011 SG in mint condition for $16K. With that said, even though it already had the Daymaker and LED's in the rear, I have spent thousands in changing the wheels, tires, front and rear shocks and upgrading the stereo amp and speakers as the OEM parts just aren't the best.
Now, I love my bike and have zero desire for something newer, bigger, badder, etc..... Only you know if you will be content with a "fixed-up" older bike or will, in some time, want even a newer bike. Good luck in your venture.

What's the point in having a bike if you're not spending money on it, right? Hell I think that's half the fun.

Well, I've put several thousand miles on it already, and I love to ride now as much as I did when I was young... so time for the new bike.

My questions are these:

I'm looking at a few used bikes 2012, 2013, and 2014 year models. Is there anything specific to model that I should be looking for when I compare these three years? Is there any new feature on the '14 that is just a can't do without it feature?

Just looking for thoughts and advice. Any response is appreciated.
That Road King will ride like a Cadillac compared to the newer Street Glides, they ride like a dump truck. I would test ride one if you can and see how you like the ride. Figure another $500+ in your budget, you will spending money on shocks for sure!

With the deal I got, I'll happily buy some shocks if I'm not happy.

Yes, the Mrs. says I spend more money on my new girlfriend than on her....
Congrats! She looks sweet! Now, she needs wheels, tires, sound system, touring bags, lowers, cam........
Have fun spending money on your new gf.

At least you have a ton of stuff to strip off your sg to sell. I always wonder why a guy buys a sg and turns it into an ultra, smh

Actually $100 off Ebay, Craigs, or forum sales if you're willing to stick with stock shocks.

For the misses that rides about 3% of the time. I did the exact same thing on my 09 Vivid Black SG. The tourpack takes one minute to come off and the lowers take about five minutes. Then you are back to one of the best looking cruisers on the street. I kept my TP and lowers when I sold the bike and mounted them on my 2011 Vivid Black RKC I got later. I have since sold that bike and waiting for a good deal on something else. But I still have the TP and lowers.
