Old habits are hard to break I guess. My last Harley lasted 17 years (still running strong) useing HD 20-50.
I think synthetics are way over-rated but what do I know.I use HD 20W/50 and I live in a hot desert area, in fact one could say one of the hottest, if not the hottestin the U.S. and I don't have any problems with using Dino oil.
Thats great.

Have you installed an oil temp gauge?

If so what do you read when up to running temp in the desert?

7K is more than enough break in time. I was going to switch to 20W60 Redline at the 1K mark but the label on the motor oil bottle said to ensure the engine had 3K so I did the switch at 3K.

There are a heck of a lot of engines that come straight from the factory with Synthetic lubes in them. Engines do not need to be broke in with Dino oil, IMO.

Go with Red Line 20W60 synthetic in your bike. Will make it run approx 20 degrees cooler in this hot climate.

Use the HD filter. It is the best.

Peace,

I am going to try Amsoil at my next change. I hear it is great stuff... Using Syn 3 now and have had no problems with it however.

I really don't think it makes a hill of beans what you put in machine as long as you change it at the recommended service intervals.[:-][:-][:-]
