Default coasting downhill in neutral

We were in Wyoming stopped and looking at the mountains and three bikes passed by in neutral the engine off coasting quietly. So I tried it and coasted at least 3 miles maybe more, it was ok, just something different.
Could this hurt anything like a bearing not gett enough oil?

since the trans and primary don't rely on an oil pump for lubrication, I doubt it.

A buddy of mine and I coasted... He has a 2010 FLHX and I have an 09 FLHP...

His alarm activated during the coast (he doesn't have the smart siren) and we could not get it fired up. He ended up pulling the 40amp for 10mins.

if you have taken a basic rider course, then you'll re-think this based on what they taught you about traction control.

you use the motor not only to go but to slow, if you slow with the motor then your brakes are cool and effective when you need them.

From a riders safety point I advise against coasting. You never know when you'll need to have an emergency maneuver that may include accelerating. Coasting removes that ability as well as engine braking.

On a motorcycle you can only control two things:

Speed and direction

Coasting in neutral takes away 50% of one of the two things you can control.

Is it as dangerous as pimp slapping a 1%er and calling him a *****? Probably not. But as stupid as people are these days I never willingly give up an advantage when riding on two wheels.
