Default Coincidence or Not? Thoughts....

Was going out for a ride this evening. Before I left, poured some Gumout Regane Complete Fuel System Cleaner in the tank...then went and filled up. Following start up and riding away, both the "check engine light" and "battery" light came on. Noticed the voltmeter reading lower (between 10 - 12) as well. Met up with some other riders. When I started it back up, all normal for a minute or two, then same lights on again and low voltmeter reading. Did this a couple of times so decided better to go straight home than get stranded somewhere. Shut it down when I got home, let sit for a minute, started back up and all is normal. Took it for a rip up & down the highway...about 10 - 15 miles and all is normal...no lights and voltmeter reading 14'ish.

Thoughts.....

Did you check for Codes?
J&P Cycles has a good write up to test the charging system:

You start with the easy and free stuff to check that any Caveman can do. ========= check the battery cables and grounds at both ends of each.

Is problem gone ??

If not move to next step ....

I could see where adding high concentration of magic fluids could cause the motor to not run properly and give the sensors input beyond normally expected= engine light.

so don;t do that again.

There are two types of fuel you can put in your ride. Top Tier and non Top Tier. Top Tier already has the cleaners and additives in it. Non Top Tier doesn't.

One of these will make your bike happy. The other won't. Your choice.

I am pretty sure that my neighborhood gas station does not have a pump that says "Top Tier" or Non Top Tier." Where would that be at. All I see is 87 Octane, 91 Octane and 93 Octane.

Top Tier. It's recommended by the leading vehicle manufacturers.

Chevron, Texaco, Shell, Exxon, Mobil and recently AM/PM Arco says they are top tier.

They all have extra cleaning chemicals. The vehicle manufacturers use them for all their testing.
