Default '06 ultra classic vs. '07 ultra classic....

Ok, here is the deal. I was ready to buy an '06. Guess all the issues on the '07 scared me away. I have read all about the 07 Ultra's with the 'noises', and the heat issues. I know the differance in the engine. So ok people. Tell me your oppinions.....06 or 07 Ultra Classic. Which is it.

I was asking myself the same question back in December. I read all the post, good and bad but I never read about any catastrophic failures. I got the 07 and haven’t looked back. My wife and I have really been enjoying the ride. Get the 07 …you’ll love it.

What problems ? Don't listen to a few guys posting over and over again . Do yourself a favor and get the 07 , unless you can get a hell of a deal on someone unloading a 06.

I would say it depends mainly on the price. If everything was equal with the bikes(condition, mileage, add-ons, etc, except the eng/trans of course), and the 06 was $3000 or more cheaper, I would do the 06 and then put the 3k into Bling/ or motor,(3k could turn it into a 96 crusher, but any closer than 3k diff and I would get the 07...just my .02...

Cavedog...You are only about 3 months or so from the 08's if you can wait. If not, 07 will be a good gamble. From what I hear, the 06's had alot of problems also. If you do go with an 07, plan to spend $1000 to $1500 right off the bat for upgrades. The pipes, big air cleaner and either PCIII or SE is almost a must if you want it to run cooler and half way right. They come so lean from the factory. Also plan on changing the transmission fluid to a heavy fluid to help with the noise.

Second...If You have problems with it, don't expect much help from the dealers and ZERO help from the factory. Harley Davidson has already proven that they could give a crap about "us" out here anymore. I have to admit that mine is better now than when I first bought it, but I have played and messed with it and spent alot on it to get it "rideable" and half way enjoyable. I guess my biggest disappointment overall is the way that Harley Davidson MC has become. They are nothing more that a big business that could care less about the customers anymore. There is no loyalty on their end what so ever. It's move the bikes and please the stockholders.

LOL...now that I've vented (not as bad as I used to be), I would say take a gamble on an 07' if you can't hold outfor the 08's. Chances are from what I heard a while back from a guy at the factory, don't expect big changes on the 08's. They were already testing the 09 stuff. Good luck on whatever you decide on....

I had the choice of either a 2006 or a 2007. I was in the market to purchase my bike 4 or 5 days after the 2007 models were released. I too was torn between bigger engine and 6spd, but I found my 2006 sitting on the floor with stage 1 and vance & hines ovals. I got mine for about 1200 off MSRP and it was set up the way I wanted it. I find myself looking for a 6th gear that is not there. I might add the 6 spd later and add 95" kit. If you can wait a few months check out the 08's.

I bought an 06 that was purchased new in May 06, then traded for an 07 in Oct. The previous owner added the stage 1 and pipes. Got it for about $3500 less than an 07. My buddy bought the 07. Unless we're on the interstate, he can seldom use 6th gear. My bike with the S1 has more power, check out the power curves in the HD accessory catalog. In 5th, we're at about the same rpm at any speed in 5th.

Don't walk...run to the dealer to get the '07.I had an 02 Heritage I sold a few months ago and hesitated like you about getting a new touring bike because of the so called problems with the '07's.I am ecstatic about my new Electraglide Classic I picked up last week.BTW the power upgrade is very noticeable to me and I had a stage 1 on the Heritage.

Ultra Classis is an Ultra Classic. Too me it would be the one I could get the best deal on. I have an 05, wanted an 07, and the difference in price was sooo significant, I could not justify. It wasn't an issues of not having the money, but what better use could I do with those extra dollars, and I don't mean MORE chrome. 401K, IRA, stocks, etc. Something that will have value. Too me the 6 speed and extra horses was not enough for the extra dollars. Good luck in your decision. However, at the Las Vegas HD dealer, the used 06 UC are not that much cheaper than a new 07, so in that cause if the savings is insignificant, go 07!
