Default '12 Ultra Classic Voltage Regulator, AGAIN....

Bought a new '12 Ultra Classic in May 2012. Roughly 800-1000 miles on the bike and the voltage regulator goes bad, The dealership replaced it under warranty. In August 2014 I encounter the same problem and I have to replace the voltage regulator again (this time at my cost). Today, one year later, the damn thing is going out again. I replaced the battery last year and the stator is fine. Anybody have any suggestions? Could it be a bad wire somewhere? Would it be worth writing to HD to see if they will do anything? This will be the 4th VR in 3 yrs!!!!!!

Get the cycle electric 50 amp 3 phase regulator and stator and be done with it. Replaced my current and past eg's with that. Harley ones are crap.

I'm on my 3rd regulator with my 2012 ultra with about 13,500 miles. I just figured I'm having a bad run of luck on regulators. If there is a fourth, I'm getting the 50 amp stator and regulator kit from Cycle Electric.

i took my 2013 FLHTK in for voltage regulator replacement a month ago with 34000 miles on it. the service manager said there a lot of problems with the 2012's; a whole crap pot came over the memorial day weekend a few years ago after running rolling thunder. not sure if he said there was a recall on them or not. something about the heat helping to cause them to go bad. check and see if there are any service bulletins on them. who knows, you might get a credit or a freebe.
saw this from the forum after doing a google search:
No recall letter. Register your VIN on Harley's website and look in the recall information and you'll see this which indicates your bike has one of the faulty Voltage Regulators:

Product Notice: 0912: PRD PGM:2012 REGULATORS

The symptoms you will see are an intermittent Check Engine Light and Battery Light.

found this too..... https://www.box.com/s/d3794df7ba0c20cd178e

If the OP has an oil cooler that won't work. He needs CE-608. I have a Jagg oil cooler but same concept with the HD one.

Damn I feel lucky. I have a 2012 with 11K on the clock. So far, no problems.

Be Safe JIM

Good catch, but it's the correct one. I see that the amazon picture is incorrect. This kit comes with the ce 608. For reference

Is the Cycle Electric 3 phase system something I can do myself or should I pay a mechanic to do it? I can change a regulator but I've never changed a stator.
