Stator or regulator

I had a similar problem two years ago at 0500 leaving Green River WY - crap.. Before that trip I had gone on line and printed out ALL the codes for my bike - then printed out just how to check the codes - took those papers and put them in a ziplock baggie and carried that in my tour pack - pulled out my papers - did my speedo check and read the codes - OUCH... turned around - 10 miles back to Green River - waited at the HD until they opened - took the mech about 5 min to tell me Stator was shot... Good news,, Stator in stock - bad news, reg NOT in stock,,,, next day air... over night at same motel, lol.. off the next day...
if you see bat light or volt drop - more than a better chance both are gone... if you can get by with a reg only,,, your lucky..

My battery light & check engine light came on while heading to Sturgis a couple weeks ago. I took a chance at it being the regulator & it was. Changed it out & the volt meter stays around 14. More than likely it's the regulator. I did notice when taking the old one off, that the 3 prong plug was corroded. I have a feeling if I cleaned it up, it would be fine.
