Default Wheel swap

My buddy has an 07 non ABS Streetglide with spoke wheels and found a set of mags from a non ABS 14 road king. What would it take to make them fit?

I think just the correct axle and spacers.

Front wheel should work, you'd need to swap wheel bearings and brake rotors.

Rear wheel is wider, to make it work, you need a wider rear fender, custom spacers and brake mods. You can run a wider rear wheel in the 08-earlier swingarm, but the old style brake caliper is a bear to mount up, you need the 08 style, two piece rear brake caliper mount.

Axles and wheel bearings in the 07 bikes are 1", the 2014 wheels have 25mm bearings/axles. Swap bearings in the wheels and keep your front axle, or change to the 25mm axle. The brake rotors on the 2014 wheels are incompatible with the 07 brakes, so you'd need to change the 2014 wheel to the older 11.5" brake rotors, or swap calipers to the 08 "brembo" style.

Hope that doesn't muddy things. there are a couple of ways to make it work, choose which one works best for you.

I agree with MIKE on his explanation for your wheel swap.

Good info, only problem is that nobody makes an 11.5" disc that will mount to the larger bolt pattern of a 14-15" Road King (Impeller) front wheel.

You would need to use the stock 14 Road King discs and also change the front brake calipers to 08 and later Brembos, and that's assuming the earlier model master cylinder will work properly with the newer Brembo calipers..... Not a journey I think I would embark on.

The old style master cylinder does work with the newer Brembo calipers but it's not optimal. ( It's not horrible, either. ) Takes a little getting used to the different brake lever feel, and it's still better than a lot of front brake setups. Better, though, to swap out to the correct master cylinder.

If it were my bike, I'd just go directly to aftermarket wheels. You wind up with a better product, by upgrading to cnc machined, forged wheels, vs the HD cast ones.

Cool

IIRC I've only read of one member who converted his pre-09 bike to take a post-09 rear wheel, which involved major surgery. He has the skills and tools, making it look a breeze, but it did involve rather more than a few wrenches!

A pair of '07 cast factory SG wheels looks great (I've bought a front for my 1990 Glide!) and can be had for very little outlay, if your buddy is patient when shopping.
