Default M/C Trailer Questions

Looking for a new enclosed single bike trailer for my Limited. I've been researching manufacturers, Haulmark, Diamond Cargo, a place called Northeast Custom Trailers that seems to make their own. Also seems to be a few places down in Georgia that make their own. Thinking I should get at least a 6X10, O.K. for a single dresser? Is a V Nose necessary? Need the chock, spare tire, tie downs, a ramp, light, vent(?) what else? Any help, opinions, tips or comments would be appreciated. Thanks...Bob

Whatever you get, make sure you put a wall, or screen in front of the bike, to keep the rocks at bay-- the only dings on mine came from trailoring it. I now have a screen on the front--grrr

I built this because I got tired of being asked to haul others bikes to sturgis, and they didn't even offer to help pay for gas. It tilts then goes back over center when you ride up on it. Notice the screen the rails are for a tarp/tent-- double duty

First thing you need to decide is what are you going to tow it with?

If you plan to do some serious traveling then I would strongly recommend you think about enclosed trailers.

You definitely need a chock and 4 to 6 tie down positions. A light is helpful when you try to check your tie downs at night.

Just remember that you do not need a huge trailer to tow a single bike. I used a Toy Hauler (no longer made) to pull my FLTRU to Sturgis and back behind a G8!

A 5X10 would work but it will be tighter when you go to tie it down. The best setup that I used was when I did my brothers up. I used the harbor freight drive in chock, about 70 buck and two strips of E-Track. This lets you drive into the chock and get off the bike while it is being held vertical. It is then very easy to attach the tie-downs. I prefer 6. I use soft ties around the fork tubes just above the fender mounts on the fork. Then I put 1 per side to the front crash bar compressing the suspension a bit and 1 per side on the rear crash bar.

I like the V-nose to have the spare and other stuff in the front of the trailer.

I have a GMC Acadia with the towing package, I think it's good for around 5,000 lbs. Definitely getting an enclosed trailer, thanks!

A 6x10 is plenty big for one bike and extra stuff. I just started to trailer last week with a 7x12 tandum axel with one Ultra and a soft tail. I went with the condor chocks, they work great. All I did was check the straps once and that was it. Good luck.

What are you tailoring the bike to? If your going camping or to a hotel why not get a toy hauler. Serves two purposes then. Brings bike along and then you can sleep in it. Win win situation.

I'd go with a 7xwhatever. 6x enclosed is tight for strapping down and you're going to end up scratching or dinging the bike with something somehow.

I have been looking at a 6x10 Lark V-Nosed Low Profile Enclosed Trailer, brand new with a spare tire and tie downs at around $2,200.00 out the door in white, red, or silver. Looks sharp and looks well built. Other colors available at extra cost. Still chewing it over.
Many folks in here will try to talk you into something bigger, dual axle, blah blah, but for just one bike, heck, it's your bike - get what YOU want.
Aluma makes a nice one like it in aluminum, at about three times the price.
I have heard some people buy a single enclosed trailer, then trade it in for something bigger, but I am yet to find one of those bargains.
