No chance you have one of those bridges with metal grates in the center of it that you were riding on is there? Fifteen plus years ago, before our skyway bridge fell down, it had the top center of the bridge covered with metal grating which you could actually look down into and see the water below. Not a fun thing to ride across on a two wheeled motorcycle that is for sure

Have had an EG for over 7 years now.
Have had some uncomfortable issues in high and sudden winds.
Normally have had to lean into the wind.
But never a wobbling sensation on any road in any wind.
All else considered I would check the tire pressures.
Low air in front can cause a wobble sensation in some riding conditions.
and also the swing arm bushings and tension.
If all is good, then it's just something to get accustomed too.

Some guys who have upgraded their suspension have mentioned that any kind of wobble goes away. While no expert I think it is a combination of Crappy front suspension, crappy rear suspension, rubber mounted swing arm and wind speed and angle that it catched the bar mounted fairing. Between the front and rear suspension and the rubber swing arm mounts ... there is a lot of slop in the system. Just the sort of thing to get a bike squirelly.

Do you have the side air deflectors, like Dragon wings, on your bike? If I take mine off, It will act like that sometimes. I replaced the solid ones with the HD version of Dragon wings and close them on windy days to stabilize the front end. It makes a big difference on mine. ride safe Dan

I have had my Glide for a year now. It's the first bike I have owned with a fairing, so I could not compare it to other fairings.
I've ridden on days where the gusts were hitting 40+ mph and have never experienced anything that made me nervous. Sounds like you caught a pretty vicious gust. It happens. I've been moved around a little, have had to lean into the wind, and have experienced a bit of buffeting (wobble), but this is to be expected on a motorcycle or any vehicle that is vulnerableto wind conditions. My personal rule of thumb is to avoid riding super slabs in high wind conditions or just not ride at all.
As for the Batwing itself, personally I have confidence in it. I have never encountered control issues. The Bat has been around fornearly 40 years used by police, fire departments, and every type of civilian rider in existence. I'm sure many have experienced what you did depending on the circumstances. All I can say is that I have not.
Others who have posted on this thread have offered some excellent suggestions as to what else may cause a problem. I can't think of anything else to add. Don't sell your Glide because of this one experience. You may find that that day on the bridge was a fluke.

It can get pretty windy in the spring here in New Mexico and in the first couple of weeks of riding my Ultra Classic this spring there were a few times when the front end wobbled a lot, particularly if the wind was coming from the side (quartering as mentioned previously). It's definitely noticable at higher speeds (75+), but as I've ridden more I've learned to anticipate it some and it's not nearly as unsettling. And slowing down a littlehelps...
FWIW I've watched my son get pushed really hard by gusts of wind on his 04 Fatboy with its solid rims.
