It may be slightly off topic but the bearing I have seen more trouble with in the rear is on the IDS upgrade kit. It's a goofy one-off for the kit to upgrade the '07 (maybe '06 too?) to the Cushman IDS that became standard (although with another bearing).
There is and never was a "Harley Bearing" only different manufacturers making bearings for Harley. AS with most corporations, Harley has been going down the cost cutting road.

Ditto! I was going to upgrade my 07 to that, but seen all the issues and said F that. I wonder really how far out of proportion this bearing issue has really become? you got to wonder.
In regards to the posted pic of the inside of the bearing, what are you guys saying about "no" grease? You saying its supposed to be packed to the gills with grease?

The 9247 bearing was, is made in Slovakia by *** for Harley Davidson. No other Mfg co made this that I am aware of. The '08 up 9276a is produced by everyone, a generic 6205 2RS.
Ok have to replace my rear tire do to a flat, bike is 06 Electra Glide with 21,000 miles, should I be worried about replacing the bearings and how should I check them. the wheel is already off the bike. Keep hearing how the new ones suck but old ones are good for many miles. I do about 5-7K a year.
Thanks

Yup, just like the oils, t-shirts, yada yada yada... The only question is at what time is which contracted mfg worth a damn... You get lucky when you can find a generic bearing. Then you can shop your own supplier. This IDS bearing for the 07 kit was Chinese made and worth crap. The replacement bearing I got just recently (8 years later) wasn't marked Chinese but may be anyway. In 08, when IDS became standard on all bikes, I think it was the same time they widened the back tire and the new IDS bearing has an extended inner race like a built in spacer.
