I had moved away from Metzlers based on experience on non-Harleys. However, I hated the stock Dunlops on my FLHTK. So when time for new tires, I took my indy tire dealer's suggestion and went to ME-888's. I run 'em at 40 and 42 and I have been very happy with both their handling and how they are wearing.
There is nothing useful on a tyre sidewall! Use your stock pressures as a starting point, if you can't find any better info. Especially when touring, loaded up, I use higher numbers as I don't reckon the owner's manual gives good advice. Same comment applies if you are very heavy, or light for that matter.
Depends on the size of the tire. It says max psi on the side wall. Max PSI on the 888 I ran which was a rear 180/65/16 was 50 which was way to hard, it rode like a rock. I dropped it down to about 44. I much prefer the Michelin Commander II to the Metz 888.

50 psi would be too hard, especially solo, for any tyre, except in the right circumstances! I use 50psi on my rear Avon when touring with Mrs B and all our gear, which is fine, but then we're close to the max weight for our bike.
