Yes, but they are exactly the same.

I got my Metzeler ME 888 Marathon Ultra Rear Tire Color- Black, Size- MU85B-16 SKU#487210 for $148 with a coupon from the home page of Motorcycle Superstore (http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com...T.ac=SLIsearch)

and EBC rear sintered brakes for $33 delivered from ebay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/200863169092...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT)

I had a local shop mount and balance and install all new bearings. I did all the wheel R&R and brake labor.

The rear kit comes with some grease deal but like Keith said, the pad itself is exactly the same as the front.

The question is if you are willing to support a local shop in order to help him stay in business should you ever need him. Shops have bills to pay. Personally, I like to support local shops and see the long view. Hopefully if I pay what they ask they will still be around in the future if and when I need them.

If you look at the 2 they look to be made of different compounds. I believe people complained a lot of squealing on the rear once they switched to Brembo. I have both at the house. I'll post up pictures after work. Not trying to argue, I don't see why they would do 2 revisions and give different part numbers if they were identical.

Well, its my experience that they are identical. I buy 3 sets of the exact same afternmarket part, and they work fine.

I've never "examined" the HD pads but I can tell you from years of automotive experience that many vehicles have "interchangeable parts" however when it comes to brakes there are numbers ( Brake Edge Codes) imprinted on them that reference to specifics regarding composition and friction materials and performance ... It would/could be that there is a difference between the two pad numbers listed by HD and the aftermarket provider has "combined" the two ... For what it's worth.

They are identical in terms of shape and fitment, yes. They will interchange. They are however different in part number. My thought, take it for what it is, was that since you have 2 discs on front they use a different compound out back to help the rear bite a little better and not squeal. I attached photos of the pads and packaging. When new (the front in the picture is used) the rears looked more copper colored (the pad not backing plate) than the fronts. That's why I said, I believe they're a different compound. The rear kit also comes with a lot of extra "stuff" I'm guessing to help combat the squealing issue.

I personally don't try to cheap out on the things that keep me on the road (tires), and stop (when a mini van pulls out in front of me). YMMV.
