Default Key won't turn 09 Touring

Ok, I've searched and read all over...
Can't find much on the key itself not working in the ignition switch.

I had my unit out last night and in a couple times as I did bars.
All of a sudden, now the key itself won't turn.
The switch works fine, in all positions, lock, off, on, acc....

I turn it all the way left (lock position) and the key won't go in in order to lock it, or to remove the unit itself. The key won't turn, which I think it's not going in all the way.

This was last night, I did spray some penetrant in it. And I tried my 2 spare keys...so the 'lint' in the opening of the key theory goes out the door! lol

So is there a way to remove this thing? I still have to put the panel back on!

Thanks for your suggestions!

I hear ya....it was getting late last night and I might have put one of the spacers in wrong on the stem...I dunno.

So now I cannot get the bugger off. The dealer says to bring it by! LOL

You probably mucked-up the alignment of the shaft -- very easy to do. I finally bought an alignment tool, but many have made their own. Search the forum for ignition alignment tools.

I know what you're saying, but all I believe the lock is, is a dowel...and it works fine. The tool itself is just that, a dowel with no 'locking' ability. On mine the key itself won't turn.

The key when turned farther than CCW while pressing the button underneath, actuates a locking tab that sticks out to keep the assembly down on the stem, that tab sticks into one of the slots on the collars on the stem...the key sucks that tab in and as suggested above, I may have put a collar backwards. When that tab is sucked in, the whole unit will lift off the stem....but my key won't turn! LOL

If your ignition switch works but just wont lock/unlock with the key then you have it mis-aligned.

Fixed a friends bike that was doing the same thing.............He had gotten the spacers under the switch mis-aligned. Fixed that and it worked perfect.

Are you saying that the key won't go in and turn due to a misalignment of the stem?

His key would go in but just wouldn't turn. The mis-alignment was the spacers under the switch. If you look under the switch, when you turn the key a tab is extruded which locks the switch in place.............His spacer was mi-aligned which prevented that tab being extruded.

You still should be able to depress the tab underneath the switch housing thus letting you remove the housing. May have to play with it and the key at teh same time but you still should be able to do that.

Step back, take a deep breath and relax.
