Remove gas tank to install stage 1 air cleaner???
All,
I have a used stage 1 (SE) from a fellow forum member. I had to find the instruction sheet on the Harley site and under removal of the existing stock air cleaner steps 3 and 4 say to
3) remove gas tank
4) remove and discard induction plate
I see this is for all of the SE air cleaners and my question is - is this really necessary and what does the induction plate do anyway? I did not think there was that much involved with simply swapping out air cleaners.
Thanks!

I didn't remove the tank. If you disconnect the rear of the tank and carefully lift the back (I propped it up with a piece of wood or rubber, can't remember), you'll have enough room to get in there. You do NOT have to disconnect the fuel line. It's possible to install it without moving the tank but getting the tank moved away helps ensure you won't wack it with something.......

Good info all. I will take a look this morning and either do as CaptainKirk mentioned or just leave it. Just wondering why it is necessary to remove it - that's all.
I am not a mechanic and not sure what purpose it serves. I assume something mounts to that bracket.
so - timbo141 - what is an ACR and why would I replace it with a CVO ACR?
Thanks!

Tank removal is for you to be able to get to the 2 screws holding the cross bracket behind the stock A/C. This bracket has to removed for the SE back plate to installed.
It is easier to remove the tank but you can get to the 2 Allan head screws using an Allan bit and 1/4" wrench.
