Default Road King Handlebar change

Ok. I have a 2008 Road King and it's too much of a stretch for me to reach the handlebars. I have a set of 12 inch mini apes that I would like to use but I'm afraid that I would have to extend the wires. Does anyone know how tall I can go before the stock cables and wires become an issue?

I put some 10" mini apes on mine, the only changes I had to do was
extend the wire harness. That cost me about $5 worth of wire.
At 10", the clutch cable is at it's max though, any higher, I think it would
need to be replaced. I also had to re-curve the brake line, and it is at it's max also.
I would say 10" is the max with no changes.
My bike is an 05, your mileage may vary.

Here's the thing though, just like you, I wanted the bars just a little closer to me, I was reaching a bit too, and had already tried adjusting the old bars.
With the new ones, the reach is still the same, and to pull them back any
further, they just don't look right. To me, higher bars looks crappy pulled back too much.

I picked up some new risers, I'll see soon if that helps, once I get them installed.
I'm using some softail risers as shown in post #12 here
https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...th-risers.html

The fat riser fill the holes up better on the nacelle cover, but they do have to be ground at the base to fit through
the holes. It won't show anyway, so it's no big deal.
I like the look of the fatty's much better than the skinny ones.

I put heritage bars on my 07 FLHRC no wire or cables changes or adjustment. Not as much pull back as the apes but I love them .if your looking to pull the bars back they are just enough. Check them out

I have 14" apes on my 08 RK and the cables I installed were all +8 so you would probably need +6 for the 12" apes. I dont think there is any way the stock cables would work.

I have an 2001. Went with LA Chopper Twin Peaks. 10". Everything is at its MAX. I had to lengthen the wire to go internal.
