Default Oem batwing fairing on road king

I am interested in putting an OEM batwing faring on my 2005 Road King. I want to install the inner and outer OEM faring on My Road King for the purpose of having a radio and speakers upfront. However I am not interested in installing any of the gauges on the inner farring. I plan to put tweeters in the holes where the 4 smaller gauges are located, And putting some sort of block out plate where the speedometer and tachometer are located. My question is how hard or simple with this install be? Is it just the outer for the inner faring and a few mounting bracket and that's it. Thanks in advance for any and all input. P.s. Even though I don't plan on installing any gauges I really do not like the look of the inner faring's on any aftermarket batwing, they just look too plain to me.

I had the same thought for my Road King and even bought the fairing. Midway through the complete overhaul of my bike I got to feeling I would regret the transition. I ended up going back to a simple Memphis Shades fairing as I don't need the tunes.

There are plenty of detachable fairings out there that would accomplish what you are wanting to do regarding a stereo yet still be able to strip it back down in just a couple minutes, Point is, think real hard about this before making any sort of financial commitment.

I think you would have to do a lot extra work to get it to fit the road king with the handle bar cover, and nacelle we have. there are threads of conversions and seems like a couple of guys made a stock fairing detachable a while back. if you are not going to use the gauges and block them off, I would think that would look worse than the aftermarket plain units.

You'd be money ahead looking into one of the aftermarket batwings for the RK. Some already come with the stereo and speakers already mounted. And the whole thing attaches just like your oem windshield so you can put it on or take it off as the mood fits.

Woody's or Reckless fairings seem to be a couple of the most talked about batwings for an RK.

thank you for all of the input guys but like I said I'm not interested in any aftermarket batwing fairing. I want to install oem batwing on my Road King.I found a nearly new factory OEM batwing on eBay the same color as my bike so I would like to go with that. with that being said not having to paint it is one less problem that I would have. I just want to know how hard it would be and the steps to installing a bat wing on my Road King. once it's installed I do not plan on removing it

Well good luck to you. I have a feeling a lot of custom fabrication is going to be involved getting one to mount up. The fairings have changed some over the years since the 2005 model bikes came out. I know the '14 and '15 touring bikes have beefed up forks over previous years. So your first task would be to find an older fairing to try and mount up. Maybe someone who has done the mod will chime in soon for you.

You would have to ditch your head light , and entire cowl, handle bar cover, probably have to switch handlebars, and you would have to get faring brackets, head light, and inner cap. I am probably not even thinking of some things you will need.

Wink

It may help to study a parts website to see the components involved.

Default Has Been Done!

I converted my Road King into a full Street Glide including the hardest part, all OEM wiring for gauges. I found many mounting brackets on Ebay. It's not difficult at all once you have all the parts. Think about filling every gauge hole with speakers instead of block off plates. I have 2 Arc audio amps in the fairing as well. You'll have plenty of room without wiring harness. Pull the trigger!
