Default 88 mods

I just did the cam/pipe upgrade on my 44,000 mile engine, which from my understanding is a stage 2 because I haven't altered heads or displacement. I should've ported the heads but I figured this would get me by for a couple years until I can spend the money on some completely new heads. My setup is TC88 fuel injected, SE211 cams, Vance n Hines Pro Pipe, SE open breather. At 5200 ft elevation I have 84hp @ 5600 and 84ft lbs @ 4100. I realized the 211 cams would want more revs but I ride it like I stole it so that was ok with me. I also figured it would be a better cam for the new heads later. The good news is the torque is over 70 throughout the entire rev range, and over 80 between 3000-5000 where you really want passing power. No idea what the power was with just the stage 1 and since the 88 is so outdated it's hard to find a pre-mod dyno pull but I seem to remember 70hp stock.
As for seat of the pants, riding 2-up is as good or better than solo used to be so I think it was worth the money. My dynojet printout says nothing about altitude but I remember from my small-block Chevy days that you lose 3% every 1000ft. So we should be talking about 97hp with this engine.
The part I don't get is why a mod like this to a car is about half the $ even though it's twice the labor!

I believe the early CVOs that were 95ci had the 203 and when HD increased the CVOs to 103ci they then put the 204 in... memory sometimes foggy tho.
This...

Over the winter my '05 FLHT had the 95" kit done and they used the 203s. I don't recall the exact HP/TQ numbers, but it was in mid 90s and when I jump on it, even with the wife aboard, it just hunkers down and pulls and pulls. On my 1,400 mile trip out to Black Hills 2 weeks ago, I was even pleased with averaging 44 mpg with all the varied speeds I rode.

I have the 21's and the bike is an absolute torque beast. Love it.
+1 on the Andews 21's, pulls like a tractor. They make a specific version that works when using the SE camplate that has different o.d.'s on either end of the cam, the 21N.

Glad you are happy. Those cams will really wake up with compression and headwork... Enjoy!
