I have this clunking noise in the front forks that i hear when going slow over some bumps say in my driveway that drives me nuts. ive put the bike on a jack and grabbed and pulled the front end every which way. everything seems tight. i dont hear it when i grab the front brake going slow to see if its the steering stem. it just when im hitting some bumps. i dont really hear it when im up to speed maybe becuase the engine noise covers it up. brake calipers. rotors. fender. axle are all tight. wonder if something internal like dampner rod or something inside forks? any info appreciated. 14k miles. its a 13 UC.
I had the issue when the fork oil was changed on my 09 Road King, dealer put in SE Racing Only Fork Oil, I had a clunk mainly when it was cool out, not so much (if at all) if it was warm.
My 09 ultra had the same problem, going slow over bumps, after being told by the dealership they could not find a problem I went ahead and adjusted the steering head bearing nut myself and that cured the problem. The clunk noise was very irritating and almost made riding the bike not enjoyable even though it was only felt when going slow over bumps as you described.
I would say it's your kickstand bumping against the frame. You can experiment just for your own satisfaction of knowing that's what the noise is by securing the kickstand tight against the frame with string or tape then riding over the bumps again.
