....not sure i follow the logic....the pack is damaged but still functional....you want to take it off while waiting to put a new one on after it arrives. why not just leave it on? you going on any long trips that require the luggage rack? why not just leave it on until you get the replacement?
I have 07 CVO RK with a tourpak so I am not worried.
If you do remove it you may end up wanting to make it permanently detachable. Big difference in the ride, especially with windy conditions.
My last RG had a two detachable tour paks to choose from. I found I had a tour pak on it more than not on it. Beside I have a 07 CVO RK with a detachable tour pak...and the tour pak stays on most of the time.
I'm not sure how much wiring it is, but maybe roll it together and stick it in a ziplock bag and Gorilla tape it to the rack. My only concern with sticking it under the seat is pinching a wire.
