My last RG had a two detachable tour paks to choose from. I found I had a tour pak on it more than not on it. Beside I have a 07 CVO RK with a detachable tour pak...and the tour pak stays on most of the time.

On my 09 ultra I would roll the cables up and put them under the seat.
Won't hurt anything.
