gas tank fill question

I don't know of any fuel station (Loves, etc.) that has "high pressure" pumps. There's only a couple of pump manufacturers around anyway so they're all pretty much the same.
Many of the pumps around here will flow more immediately after a filter change (inside the pump), but otherwise flow control is monitored entirely with the valve handle at the end of the hose.
Some of the newer valve handles are not as progressive as others and I have had the same issue as the OP. With those I simply put in as much as I can get without making a huge mess and call it good.
And I don't have any issues seeing the fuel in the tank when filling - I just pull the valve handle back and look.

i also try to keep the nozzle up and out of the fill hole so i can see whats going on, but you have to be very careful. make sure you keep the nozzle touching some part of the tank or fill area. this keeps the nozzle grounded so it doesnt create a spark. i have seen a bike go up in flames because of this. either way, i get my tank full everytime...

That's good For You folks that don't have Hi-Pressure pumps like We have here in El Paso. I can't completely fill My tank without splashing gas all over My tank. Once out of town, No problem, I can control the pressure of the amount of gas going into the tank. PS: Dawg what Happened To SOOS?

I put the nozzle all the way in the tank at the start just to confirm if the pump auto-shutoff is working (don't ask me why :-)). If the auto-shutoff isn't working, I want to know before the tank is full. Then I raise the nozzle a little more and keep fueling until the pump clicks off. I may do this 2-3 times. Eventually, the nozzle is near the top of the hole and the tank is full.

Try this. I use one and have had good luck with it. Some guys will laugh, but it does work.

what i try to do is get a gas station towel and put it over most of the opening
What is a "gas station towel"? If you are referring to one of those brown paper towels that you dry your hands with after taking a public restroom dump; they will scratch your finish toot suite.
I think you people are overthinking this...what's wrong with pulling the nozzle out every few seconds & you can visullay see after a couple times how quickly it is filling. Then...DUH!...stop it before it gets too full.
I don't worry about this 'cause I buy non-ethanol gas in bulk & fill with a gas can & a funnel. Easy peasy/Awesome sauce!
