I am going to be bringing my bike into my mechanic in a day or two for this issue. i am pretty sure its either a voltage regulator or a stator or both. my question is.... do you thing the addition of a new radio and amp may have caused the issue or is it just because it "happens"
My check engine light came on going down the interstate and about a half second later the battery light came on and my voltage was at 10 volts. I drove to the dealer ( 5 miles) and had the regulator replaced in warranty.
just replaced mine on my 2012 ultra limited at 27,XXX miles for the exact same condition, i installed one from cycle electric, their regulator mounts above the oil cooler instead of behind it.
Same thing happened to mine. Ended up being the voltage regulator as well, on a 2012 FLHX with about 11k miles. Found this out not only after replacing the battery, but after the bike dying about 2 miles from my house. Luckily the tow was free, but damn that was frustrating.
If you haven't already checked, you could pull the battery and make sure the ground wire cable under the battery hasn't came loose? And just make sure the battery connections are tight.
I second checking the ground cable. The last bike I checked out for a friend had a check engine light and a code for low battery voltage. Turned out to be a corroded ground connection at the frame. Replaced it and added a second ground wire for an bit of extra measure. No problems since.
