Default Stripped Axle Nut Clamp Bolt

I was changing out my tires yesterday on my 2014 road king and I stripped my axle nut clamp bolt. It's an allen head bolt and it's sunk into the clamp so it doesn't stick out so I can't grab it with anything and twist.

It'll probably be another 6 months to a year before it needs to come off again so I have time to plan. What are some of my options? I've never done this before so I'm trying to find the easiest way. I assume I'll have to drill it?

Sometimes when an allen is stripped some hammering in the area is sufficient to reform the deformed area.
Other times tapping a torx into the hole works.
A picture might help to judge damage.

If it is just mildly rounded out you can get some "Anti cam out fluid", Kimball-Midwest sells it, Ive even seen it at a Sears once. The stuff is a miracle, it increases the torque grip by 400%. Ive used it on screws, allens, and torx. If its beyond that tap in a torx with that fluid and it should come out, maybe use a hand impact wrench. Snap on makes the strongest torx bits, better than Mac, Matco, Crapsman, proto. I see wrenches in my shop constantly exchanging bits, Snap on last the longest without breaking.

Wow. That makes me feel better. I'll take a picture when I get home. It honestly doesn't look that bad. Just enough for it to slip when pressure is applied. Thanks.

Are you sure you can't get it out with a metric allen wrench? or is that what you were using?

That's what I was using. The right size spins now. And the next size up doesn't fit.

Its like its barely stripped. It doesn't feel bad until I apply pressure and it slips. So I'll try the stuff to get a bit more grip.

try a SAE size close to the metric size, sometimes if its not stripped too bad the SAE size will grab it enough to get it out. You may have to tap it into the hole, it will fit snug
good luck.

If all else fails you could drill into it a little ways with a reg. drill bit then get a left hand bit to bring it out, it's worked for me in the past.

Thanks guys. I'll try those starting with the SAE size first.
