open air cleaner

RE: open air cleaner
On my road king I went with the K&N 3909(?) which allows me to use the football cover, or any cover that will fit accordingly. On my dyna I had an open a/f, and when it really rains, it started sucking water and sputtering. You also have to cover it when washing. So, for now I'm satisfied with the K&N.

ORIGINAL: Bigredone
I had the K&N 3909 kit and had a oil leaking problem. Switched to a Big Sucker 1 and the problem is gone!

Iam by no means an expert either but my take on the issue is based on the quality of the product as well as it's ability to breath. The K&Ns hold up for ever and are replaced if they degrade (at least the one for my truck was). Their cfm numbers are good so I will keep it simple and go w/ the K&N that replaces the SE stage II.

RE: open air cleaner
I had a K+N on the last ride, it dripped oil, but the vent tubes dumped out below the intake. I went for the SE air cleaner and backing plate so I wouldn't have to oil the element, and the vent tubes exit above the intake, so hopefully any drips will run down into the TB. I didn't get the AC on in time to do a lot of riding before the snow came, so I can't report on long term use. I reprogrammed with SERT and opened up the mufflers a bit and it runs good. Here is a link to the post I did with pix about the install.
