I have been thinking about getting one of these style mechanical cruise controls. The thumbscrew ides just doesnt seen to work good for me. I have an 01 EG with the MM EFI so HD doesnt sell a complete cruise kit as w/ the 02 and later models w/ the delphi EFI.

For those with older touring bikes, including police model EG's and RK's, check-out Cruisemount.com's website. This guy knows his stuff about HD cruise units and offers wiring harnesses and solutions for installing HD cruise uits on these bikes. Dave is also a really good guy. He fabricated a prototype wiring harness (using the HD cruise module) and installed it on my bike last Thanksgiving week (took a few hours as he trimmed the wires to the correct length, took lots of notes and pictures) and it's been working great ever since. Not trying to hijack the thread dealing with mechanical or other types of cruise devices.

I bought a device kind of like this a while back but it just attatches right to your thumb screw. cost was about 10 buck if I remember right. Does the same thing as this does for 90 bucks. I actually found it from a link on this board, but I cant remember where.

Another alternative. A bit pricey but mechanical; Not electronic.
BrakeAway Motorcycle Cruise Control

Edit Didn't see the above post. This seems a bit safer as all you need to do is grab brake.

I have one like in the original post. It came with the bike I bought used. It works perfectly. I love it.

I use a Sturgis Throttle Mate. About $20.00 from their website or at just about any rally at their booth. It set-screws over the existing star wheel. Among the best accessories I have added to my scoot.

the cruise mate has a coarse thread that allows full engagement in 1/4 turn the HD thumbwheel has a fine thread that requires more turns to engage

I use the thumbwheel and set it just snug. It is tight enough to hold the throttle but loose enough that you can move the throttle by hand if needed. I can set and release it all together just using my thumb (well DUH !! that's why they call it a thumbwheel).

Almost like it better than the cruise on the Ultra.
