Default Combo Speedo/Tach Install question - Road King

I got myself the combo speedo/tach, and I really like it as an upgrade over the stock speedo. One issue though - since it has a nice fuel gauge on it, I would like to replace the fuel gauge on the left side with a blank. Unfortunately I can't find anything like that - does anyknoe know where I can find something, or any other ideas?

Thanks!

I tried to do exactly what you describe, but it wont work. That gauge on the tank provides some level of resistance or something, if you remove it and put a blank in, the new gas gauge on the combo wont work. If memory serves I think it reads the resistance value off of the gauge on the tank.

I think if you are an electrical engineer you can maybe put a resistor or diode or something in line, but it is less than intuitive, its not a matter of simply cutting the wires and putting in a blank.

Cover it with something. Seriously! It could be done...

I started a thread on this very thing over 4 years ago. I found the thread.

The resistance issue starts at post #36...

On my son's Deluxe we just covered the tank gauge with the matching cover to the fuel cap. turned out pretty good. sure there are a couple hundred styles. Beats the extra 250. Just a thought

I know, but now that I've looked at the flush covers, I'm starting to like them more... I haven't put 500 miles on the bike yet, but the custom bug has bit me already....

Yep...what he said. Same issue and same result. I still have the stock cap/gauge. It's almost like they have designed these things to require you to spend more money...lol

I went with this on mine. The gas gauge on the speedo/tach is a bit small for me so this gives a quick visual when riding. Pretty neat feature is that the LEDs blink and count down on the last gallon.
