Kinda surprised Harley hasn't offered painted vents as an option, they IMO look better (especially on lighter colored bikes) then the standard flat black one.

If your ride is Vivid Black, then you can probably find hanging on a hook at your HD Dealers parts department, like I did:

Splitstream Vent Trim – Batwing Fairing
Part Number 61300461DH

I had my buddy paint them vivid black just to create some contrast and get rid of the dull plastic. I love it, and have gotten a lot of compliments. Which honestly surprised me considering how small of a detail it is, but it is an eye catcher!

They have not released daytona blue for purchase yet, so paint matched was not even an option for me. But I do love the contrast with the black!

Default My disappointing paint job...

My disappointing paint job... I had my inner fairing painted to match my 2014 Big Blue Pearl SG FLHX. My local shop (that came highly recommended) sold me on having it painted and promised me they would make it come out color matched perfect. The color match came out ok (not perfect) as you can see a slight diff in shades but the main issue is that the metal flakes came out looking smaller than what is in the stock paint! It's not a glaring issue but it looks different especially in the sun because of that. They said having the pearl and the metal flake for my color is hard to get perfect and it's hard to get it to match with varying air pressures and temps.

I guess at the end of the day it looks it's better than matte black but it def does not match as well as I expected and I can tell the difference. You have to look close and most people who do not own a touring bike don't even realize that they don't come painted.

I saved $200 not ordering from Harley. If I had to do it again, I would have gone with Harley and not had it painted. The inner faring is what you are looking at all the time and it bugs me that is does not match the tank! I may even buy a new painted inner fairing from Harley and sell mine. I'll try to post pics so everyone can see.

I know they said that the paint is expensive because of my color and they could not get the Harley paint. I think the brand they used was PPG or something? This might be one of those things like Tuning. Is it that your paint job will only come out as good as the painter?

Too bad it's just the front piece. I want the other piece as well. I just picked up a whole new vent assembly. As soon as I can find the Amber Whiskey paint codes, I'll be dropping it off at the painter.

That's a great look. Too bad I didn't think of it last spring when I had my from fender painted. The paint was very expensive. I may check with my painter to see if he still has any on hand from my job.

The price of the paint sounds like my Chrome Yellow Pearl. My jaw dropped when I found out what the price of the paint was. I was buying a fender and was just going to get it fixed until I heard the price of just the paint and then the price of a brand new fender. I went with the brand new fender. I ended up buying paint when I did my tourpack because I did not have a choice since I bought it used.
