Default tired speaker upgrade

rented a 2015 ultra at daytona, sounded awesome! that said i dont have the budget for a serious upgrade, was looking at picking up a set of take off 6.5" speakers off a 2014 and put the adapter rings in for my 2007, is the sound much better on the 6.5" than the 5.5" or is it not worth it?

I did the "Hog Tunes big ultra" upgrade to my 05' and with the amp change the sound was awesome. I think on your 07' you have the lower Ohm speakers so you could just do the Hog Tune speakers, then add the amp later

If you want to do this audio upgrade right the first time go with biketronics amp and 7.1 speakers. It's expensive but you get what you pay for. A friend of mine did the hogtunes upgrade and it was not impressive. There are a lot of threads here stating the same thing. Biketronics also has a lifetime guarantee. When I did my biketronics upgrade I was 100% satisfied. If you just change speakers you won't be happy.

billbuzz, appreciate your response, but theres no way i could justify $600 on a harley radio system, some folks can, im not there yet (dont think i ever will), looking for an inexpensive option to perk up tired speakers, increasing speaker size seemed like a good idea, is this wrong?

I know what your saying bigmarc66. I didn't want to spend that much cash either on an audio upgrade but as many guys say on this forum just speakers will not make you happy. Good luck and can't wait for this northeast Ohio weather to break so we can ride!!!

Factory speakers are going to be a waste. You can pick up a good set of 6.5" speakers for about a hundred bucks or less. Look in the Audio forum for recs. I have a set of Kicker 6.5's in my '14 that I love, and they were less than $70 for the pair.

What is your absolute maximum budget?

$100 if its life changing, really need to be around $50, i use ebay for most things, it was my understanding that any old 6.5" speaker will not work because they require 4ohms, which is why i thought stock hd 6.5" speakers would be a good choice being they are 2ohms

I'm thinking along the same lines as you Marc..
Want an upgrade above the stock POS speakers, but don't want to dump a crap load of cash.
Here's what I'm looking at.. Take a look at the Polk db651 speakers (Crutchfield is a good place to start). A lot of folks have had good results with these and they run about $75 for a pair. They can handle 6-60 watts RMS (180 watts peak power) @ 4ohms, so you could use them straight up with the HK (outputs 20wpc). However, a modest amp will give you some more punch. Something like the Alpine KTP-445U ($150) would complement these nicely. It pushes 45w x 4 and is bridgeable, so you could also run it at 90w x 2. Would not want to crank the up all the way at 90wpc or you may blow the voice coils.. Anyway, this will not be plug and play like the canned solutions, so you would have some work to do. If that does not intimidate you, it will be much easier on the wallet.... Good luck in your search!

BTW... 4 ohm - will work on any system rated 2 ohm or lower...
However if you got an amp or receiver looking for say 8 ohm, you should not use a speaker rated at a lower impedance (6.2, 4, 2, etc..). Hope this helps!
